BANGALORE: The Bangalore Science Forum founded by the Late H. Narasimhaiah has drawn up plans to extend the spirit of learning science through many ways and one among them would be to motivate the youth to attend lectures on science. It would like to drive home the point that without a focus on fundamental science there could not be first grade technology. The President of the Bangalore Science Forum, A.H. Rama Rao, who is also the President of the National Education Society, told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the 28th annual Science Festival of the Bangalore Science Forum would start on Friday with a lecture by G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Space Commission and Chairman, ISRO, Bangalore, on "Recent Trends in Space Technology India's Perspective". The annual science festival organised by the Science Forum at the National College, Basavanagudi, has been a major attraction for the youth and leading scientists deliver lectures on contemporary subjects pertaining to Science. During the 28th Science Festival, the Science Forum would set a new record when the 2,000th science lecture would be delivered on July 8 by C.N.R. Rao, Linus Pauling Research Professor. He would speak on "Can India become Competitive in Scientific Research". The Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, would felicitate Dr. Rao for his achievements in the field of science on that day. The others who would deliver lectures at the science festival are K. Kasturirangan, MP and Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, on "Space in the next Millennium" (July 31); G. Padmanabhan, former Director, Indian Institute of Science, on "Revolution in Medical Biotechnology" (July 3); Vivek Jawali, Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospital, on "Bypass Surgery changing trends" (July 2); S. Sadagopan, Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore on "Change in colour of Indian IT Industry" (July 6); Ajay Kumar Sood of the Indian Institute of Science on "Nano Science hype or reality" (July 16); U.R. Rao, former Chairman, Space Commission, on "Space Security" (July 22); and P.
