The State Bank of India begins functioning at its headquarters in Bombay from July 1, 1955. The State Bank will take over from the Imperial Bank of India on this date the entire undertaking of the Imperial Bank within the country. So far as the business of the branches of the Imperial Bank in foreign countries is concerned, such business will be taken over by branches of the State Bank of India to be opened there, in accordance with the provisions of law in the respective countries.
