It is heartening to note that the Neyveli Book Fair - 2005 will be held from July 1 to 10, 2005 and more than one hundred and fifty leading publishers will be displaying their publications. The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man. Nothing else that he builds ever lasts. Monuments fall, nations perish, civilisations grow old and die out, and after an era new races build others. But in the world of books are volumes that have seen this happen again and again and yet live on, still young, still as fresh as the day they were written. Books are the carriers of civilisation. In the present world of multimedia and digital wonders, the humble book is more vital than ever. Other media may be flashier or appeal more to our senses, but it is the book that will slow us down long enough to think. It is the book that will have connectivity to our higher mind, not just to our emotions. Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life. A book fair is a special event that enables book lovers to purchase quality books at a reasonable price. We are continuing the annual show with the motto of guarding the reading habit and granting the gift of book reading habit to the young ones. I have no doubt that the Eighth Book Fair will also be a grand success as the past ones.
