Bhupathi to pair up with Damm

London: Mahesh Bhupathi will play with Martin Damm of the Czech Republic for the rest of the year following the retirement of his Australian partner Todd Woodbridge.

Woodbridge announced his retirement on Wednesday evening saying that he has had "a pretty good run.'' The Australian said he came into Wimbledon hoping to play the whole year but "things didn't work out according to plan.''

"I had always planned to play my whole year out this year, but my partnership with Mahesh Bhupathi didn't go as what we would have hoped,'' said the nine-time Wimbledon doubles champion.

"I didn't even come to this tournament planning to retire. But I felt I had some good memories here and it was the right place to do it and the right time in my career to do it,'' he said.

Bhupathi said he was surprised when Woodbridge told him about the decision after losing their second round doubles match here last week. "We had a poor match but I was really surprised. But I respect his decision and I will be playing with Martin Damm the rest of the year,'' said Bhupathi.
