ERODE: : "The conservancy workers not considering the requests of the women councillors and have adopted a partial attitude towards the wards, which are represented by them," complained AIADMK councillor, S. Jagadambal and DMK member, M. Geetha at the council meeting on Thursday, which was presided over by the Chairman, M. Subramanian (DMK). While Ms. Jagadambal said the workers were not cleaning the roads in her ward properly, Ms. Geetha complained that her first request immediately after assuming office three-and-a-half years ago had not been considered yet.
Projects delayed
The vice-chairman, Market N. Raja, said that one year back, 90 borewells were sunk in the municipal limits and the council resolved to fit electric motors to the borewells and fill water in overhead tanks and supply it to the residents. The works had not been completed. He charged that the municipal contractors were delaying the sanctioned works. An Independent councillor R. Arjunan, N. Rajkumar (AIADMK) and some DMK councillors also complained about the municipal contractors. The vice-chairman wanted the Chairman to adjourn the topics related to sanction of tenders. Mr. Subramanian said that the Municipal Commissioner, K. Jayaraman, will hold a contractors' meeting on July 6 to settle the issue.
Licence cancellation
The council took up the issue of cancellation of permission to a local industry, Sakthi Masala for maintaining a mini park inside the Municipal Central Bus Stand. (Some years ago, the council granted permission to Sakthi Masala to set up a mini park on the southern side of the Erode Municipal Central Bus Stand and maintain the same). Now, the municipality decided to cancel the permission for the park and construct a shopping complex in the area. Opposing the move, the senior Congress councillor, R. Sundarasamy, said that the council meeting held on February 14, 1997 rejected permission for cancellation of permit for establishing the park. Mr. Jayaraman said that the industrial group was not maintaining the park properly. After heated discussion for more than 20 minutes, the council passed the resolution cancelling the permission for the park and decided to construct mini shops.
