SALEM: New family cards will be distributed in the district on all Saturdays and Sundays from July 2.

According to Collector A. Sukumaran, the district had received 7,14,860 applications for new cards. These would be distributed through fair price shops in the respective areas. Announcement in this regard would also be displayed on notice boards of all fair price shops and at offices of unions and village administrative officers.

The Collector added that about 56,000 cards attached to 45 fair price shops were not ready. These would be distributed by the end of this month.

Cards would be issued to those who affixed their photographs on the applications. Any other family member could also collect the card after obtaining authorisation from the head of the family.

They should come with old cards, acknowledgement receipt for new cards and Rs. 5 towards the card cost.

Those who did not receive the cards in July could get them from Taluk Supply Officers in August and September. Other details can be had from the Control Room at the Collectorate.
