KOTTAYAM: A Syndicate meeting of Mahatma Gandhi University held here on Thursday decided to seek legal advice on the issue of extension of tenure of four members whose term had come to an end on March 31. The tenure of C.C. Jacob, Saratchandra Raj, GeoMaria and Fatima Beevi as Syndicate members had come to an end on March 31, on their retirement from service. On Thursday, the three-month grace period provided in statute had also come to an end. However, on Thursday's session, one of the retiring members Saratchandra Raj produced a piece of legal advice he received in favour of the continuation of their term till new incumbents took charge. It was against this backdrop that the Syndicate decided to seek legal advice. It is also learnt that the Syndicate had decided to appoint Sreekarishna Kumar, a contract appointee, in charge of the Director of School of Technology and Applied Science (STAS). It has also been decided to notify the post of Director of College Development Council (DCDC), which had been lying vacant for a long period now. The Syndicate also appointed a sub-committee under K. Basheer Khan for expediting the work on the reforms to be incorporated in the Examination Manual and Office Manual for the Mahatma Gandhi University Meanwhile, most of the controversial issues which were expected to come up for discussions, including the pay parity for contract lecturers were not taken up at the meet.
