Directive to rape victim to be probed
|
Crime came to light after the girl was delivered of a child
|
RAIPUR:
The Chhattisgarh Government on Thursday ordered a probe into a village panchayat's alleged directive to a rape victim, who was delivered of the child of the accused, to stay with his family until she reached marriageable age and then get married to him.
"I have asked for a report from the Raipur district administration," Revenue and Law Minister Brij Mohan Agrawal told PTI here.
A section of the media reported the incident that took place at Chhata. The matter came to light a year after the rape, when the victim gave birth to the child.
Both the police and civil administration were probing the matter separately, official sources said.
Though the victim's family members were demanding action against the accused, the panchayat directed the boy's family, also a Dalit, to keep the girl as his wife. It asked both sides to enter into an agreement, signed on a stamp paper, that the boy's family would keep the girl and her child, villagers said.
