RAJAHMUNDRY: The police arrested two Janashakti naxalites late on Wednesday in connection with the murder of the CPI(ML) Janashakti-Ramachandran group leader, M.V. Prasad, and wife Vasantha at Mote village. The Rajahmundry DSP said two revolvers, two cellphones, Rs.54,490 in cash and a motorcycle were seized from the two extremists -- Yeddu Ramachander (45) alias Satyam alias Bhupati, secretary of the Janashakti-Rajanna group, and his aide, B. Nandam alias Vijay. They were produced in the court on Thursday evening.
According to preliminary information, the duo was staying at Shantinagar area for the last one month. The police seized some letters, written by Ramachander to the party Central Committee, in which he mentioned about the killing of Prasad, terming him a `police covert.' Ramachander was commander of the Kodavali dalam and was made Godavari special division committee secretary in 2004. The police said that he was also involved in a murder case in Polavaram and bus burning case in Buttaigudem.
Janashakti's challenge
Hyderabad Special Correspondent writes: Meanwhile, the Janashakti has vowed to avenge the killing of Prasad. allegedly by Kurai Rajanna. A statement issued by the party's general secretary, K. Ramachandran, here on Thursday said that reprisal would not be in the manner of Rajanna but by going to people "to ensure that no more Kurai Rajannas grow among the toiling sections." Mr. Ramachandran rejected Rajanna's explanation that Prasad was killed for being a police agent while Vasantha was shot accidentally. The post-mortem on the latter had disproved his claim, he added.
