Namdhari XI posts win
BANGALORE:
Namdhari XI routed Central Excise 5-0 in the Deccan Herald super division hockey tournament here on Thursday. Gurcharan Singh was in prolific form slotting home three goals (7th,34th and 63rd). The second goal was off a penalty corner. Joga Singh (54th) and Harbhajan Singh (67th) were the other scorers for Namdhari XI.
In the second match, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Karnataka State Police played out a 1-1 draw. Hamza Mujtaba scored first for IOCL in the sixth minute and Laxman Rao scored the equaliser in the 33rd minute.
Clarification: In the report on the suspensions on the Central Excise players published on Thursday, the suspensions awarded to M.A. Bopanna (captain) and Charles D'Souza should read as two matches instead of two months.
