Fatehbir Dhaliwal poised to win title

NEW DELHI: Fatehbir Dhaliwal shot his third successive round of 71 to take a nine-stroke lead in the senior category of the Nokia Northern India junior and sub-junior golf championship at the Army Golf course here on Thursday.

At second place, tied with category `B' leader Rahul Bakshi, was Surya Prakash Singh at six-over 222. Second to Bakshi in category `B' was Amanjyot Singh, at 225.

Child prodigy Viraat Badhwar returned a card of four-over 76, which coupled with his opening round 79, gave him a four-stroke lead in category `D' that has three rounds of nine holes each.

Dhaliwal started poorly, three-putting on the opening hole. He made up with a birdie on the fifth, but dropped a shot on the eighth to take the turn at one over. On the return, Dhaliwal recorded birdies on the 11th and 12th to even matters.
