NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government's award-winning `Bhagidari' project for partnership with citizens today went hi-tech with the launch of a new videoconferencing facility for interaction between the RWAs and the administration.

``We have today launched videoconferencing facility in three districts for use by citizens' groups to interact with us,'' Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced here.

Dikshit was speaking after she was handed over the United Nation's award given to the Bhagidari Cell of Delhi Government. The facility has been set up in three districts -- South, Southwest and West -- and will be extended to the other districts in the next one-and-half months, Dikshit said. About the UN award won by Delhi Government from over 200 nominations from around the world, she said the credit for it goes to the citizens.

``We initiated the project but the citizens who joined the movement ensured that it was a success,'' Dikshit said. Elaborating on plans for expansion of the project, the Chief Minister said a partnership with the senior citizens was being worked out, as part of which a three-day workshop has been called next month. She also said the government planned to include residents' groups of slums and unauthorised colonies in the project.

The award was presented on the occasion of UN Public Service Day by General Assembly President Jean Ping at a brief ceremony at the headquarters in New York on June 23 to Chief Secretary S Regunathan on behalf of the Bhagidari Cell. - PTI
