NEW DELHI: Describing Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's six years in office so far as a period replete with inefficiency and misleading propaganda, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday issued an appraisal report on the functioning of the departments under her and termed the overall performance as "poor'' and "spiritless''. At a press conference here, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan said Ms. Dikshit's report card clearly reflected a lack of professional approach forcing even the Congress high command to form a coordination committee to oversee the working of the Delhi Government. Dr. Vardhan said the BJP had decided to issue the report card after Ms. Dikshit started assessing the performance of her own ministers. Interestingly, the BJP leader said, Ms. Dikshit herself had termed the performance of a majority of the Ministers as not up to the mark and had called the Food and Supplies Minister, Raj Kumar Chauhan, the weak link in the Cabinet. "It has become a habit with the Chief Minister to target her own colleagues whenever she is in trouble. Ms. Dikshit should first scrutinise her own performance before assessing others,'' Dr. Vardhan said. Ms. Dikshit herself holds the charge of Chairperson of Delhi Jal Board in addition to holding important departments like Services, Administrative Reforms, GAD, Home and Law and Order. "As for DJB, even after being the chairperson for the past six years, Ms. Dikshit has failed to bring about efficiency in the functioning of the Board. The loss of water due to leakages six years ago was around 48 per cent and now it stands at 45 per cent. The availability of water has not been increased despite tall claims. The Government has surrendered the interests of the people of Delhi before multinational companies. Now a roadmap is being chalked out with the help of the World Bank to sell the assets of DJB and privatise the water supply and distribution network,'' he added. Dr. Vardhan said the Chief Minister had compromised the interests of the State as well as the citizens of Delhi by privatisation of the power sector in the Capital. Even three years after privatisation, consumers continue to suffer. Inflated bills, fast running meters and power cuts have been the gifts of privatisation to Delhiites,'' he added. On the other hand, he said that the Services Department was riddled with corruption. The transfer and posting policy that takes shape from the office of the Chief Minister has become a money spinning industry. A large number of insiders were making money through this new transfer and posting industry. The recent bribe-on-camera scam had exposed the true face of the administration, he added.
