NEW DELHI: Northern Railway has decided to introduce eight new trains, including three rail buses, besides extending 10 trains and increasing the frequency of at least six trains. Its other new initiatives include introduction of e-ticketing on the Kalka Shatabdi Express, opening of new reservation counters, upgradation of railway stations and doubling of railway tracks on various sections. Releasing the combined time-table of Northern, North Eastern and North Central Railway effective from July 1, 2005, here on Thursday, the newly-appointed General Manager of Northern Railway, V. N. Mathur, said a couple of trains would be cancelled. These include Bhatinda-New Delhi Intercity Express from July 1 and Delhi-Jammu Tawi Express from July 10, while Malda Town-Bhiwani Farrakka Express will be short terminated at Delhi and cancelled between Delhi and Bhiwani. Similarly, 14 trains have been re-numbered, while at least two dozen trains will be rescheduled. These include Lucknow Mail, Allahabad Janshatabdi Express, Jammu Mail, Jan Nayak Express, Jansewa Express, Hemkunth Express, Thirukkural Express, Chandigarh Express, Jammu-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Bihar Sampark Kranti Express and Delhi-Jaisalmer Express. Besides, additional stoppages has been provided on the routes of 23 trains including Himgiri Express at Roorkee, Sadbhawana Express at Seohara, Malwa Express at Khanna, Hemkunth Express at Jagadhri, Harihar Express at Sultanpur, Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti Express at Moradabad and Chandigarh Janshatabdi at Sonepat. It will also be augmenting several trains by adding more coaches. According to Mr. Mathur, Northern Railway has also decided to introduce e-ticketing where passengers would instantly get their copy of the ticket booked through Internet from a printer anywhere instead of getting it through courier service. "The facility will be introduced in July for Kalka Shatabdi Express for a period of two months. If the project is successful, the new service will be introduced in other trains also. Mr. Mathur said while the work on the new Anand Vihar railway station was going on well and would be completed by March 2007, feasibility studies were being conducted for opening a new station either at Bijwasan or Holambi Kalan for people living in South and West Delhi besides catering to the needs of neighbouring township of Gurgaon. He also announced that the work on expanding New Delhi station by adding four new platforms would begin soon. Talking about extension of rail service to Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northern Railway General Manager said two passenger trains and a Sampark Kranti Express was running on the Jammu Tawi-Udhampur section. "Two other sections -- Udhampur-Katra and Qazigund-Baramulla -- will become operational by March 2006, the section between Katra and Qazigund that is the most challenging one in the entire project will be completed only by 2008," he informed.
