Thousands of defaulters pay up power dues

Good response to bill waiver scheme

CHANDIGARH: The Outstanding Electricity Bill Waiver Scheme announced by the Haryana Government recently has evoked an overwhelming response.

A large number of consumers can be seen at the cash counters of the Power Utilities every day waiting for their turn to pay their current bills.

An official spokesman said here on Thursday that over 11,000 defaulters of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) paid their current bills on Wednesday taking the total number of such consumers to 30,000.

Collection crosses Rs 1 cr.

These consumers paid their current bills worth Rs. 1.05 crores, he added.

In Bhiwani district, about 11,885 defaulters have paid their current bills worth Rs. 45 lakhs, he added.

He said to give a chance to those defaulters who had started paying their current electricity bills by opting for the waiver scheme, the DHBVN has decided to extend the ongoing voluntary disclosure scheme for unauthorised extension of load for one more month up to July 31, 2005.

The VDS scheme is applicable to the domestic, non-domestic and tubewell consumers.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Power Utilities has made the waiver scheme more consumer friendly bny extending the facility of reconnection to those whose connections have been temporarily or permanently disconnected, according to the new Chairman of the Haryana Power Transmission and Distribution Corporations, O.S. Lohchab.
