IAF extends relief operations

NEW DELHI:
The Indian Air Force on Thursday extended its flood relief operations to Gujarat besides continuing its relief operations in Himachal Pradesh. Presently two Mi-17s from Jamnagar have been pressed into operations in south Gujarat. Other Mi-17 and Mi-8 squadrons in South-Western Air Command are on a standby.
In Himachal Pradesh, the IAF has rescued 230 people since the commencement of operations. These include 114 persons from Recong Peo, 42 from Sangla, 65 from Pooh and nine from Leo.
Four Mi-17s and two Cheetahs are carrying out these operations from Rampur in HP. So far 600 kg of relief material has been dropped at Recong Pio and 3.3 tonnes of given to the Army.
