BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, presided over by the State Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur on Thursday gave clearance to the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS-2005) for all regular employees of the State Road Transport Corporation. This comes as a sequel to an earlier decision to disband the Corporation, which was running in huge losses. Briefing newspersons on the Cabinet decisions, the Minister for Commerce and Industry, Kailash Chawla, said the VRS would entail an expenditure of Rs. 385 crores for which the Centre has released the first instalment of Rs. 45 crore. He said it has now been decided to include Other Backward Classes in the special recruitment drive for the SC/ST categories, which was now being extended till July 31.
Other decisions
Mr. Chawla said other decisions include setting up of a Cabinet sub-committee to review the action taken by the Secretary-level committee and the recommendations of the Jagatpati committee set up by the previous Congress-led Government to probe certain land allotments. The Cabinet committee's proposal to grant permission to the State Excise department to purchase arms for its officials has also been approved. The Cabinet has further decided to make necessary amendments in the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (pension) Rules for calculating the pension of doctors by taking into consideration the average non-practicing allowance payable to them in the last ten years of service. This amendment would be applicable from March 10, 1997 onwards, Mr. Chawla said. The Cabinet has decided to give counter guarantee for the optionally convertible bonds to the Shri Maheshwar Hydel Power Limited by the Power Finance Corporation, which is pending for the last 13 years. This would be on the condition that the Maheshwar Project would meet the target of generating 400 MW of power, Mr. Chawla said. The Cabinet has also approved the Sports Policy 2005 under which there would be stress on infrastructure development, selection and training of sportspersons, and better coordination between different State-level sports associations and federations. The State Government has also decided to provide a sports ground for every village with a population of 5,000 within the next five years.
