Nine killed in landslips

DEHRA DUN: Nine persons were killed, and about 160 two-wheelers, six cars and an equal number of shops were buried under heavy debris, caused by landslips. Extensive damage was caused to the parking space at Govind Ghat near Joshimath in Chamoli district in the wee hours of Thursday.

The landslips were triggered by a cloudburst that caused flash floods. The Joshimath-Badrinath road has been blocked and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and other muncipal workers were trying to restore traffic so that the large number of pilgrims were not stranded the Commissioner of Garhwal Division, Subhash Kumar said.
