BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed for eight weeks a notification on the introduction of long-term policy for two-wheelers in States where lifetime tax is being enforced. Justice Chidananda Ullal passed the order on a petition by S. Made Gowda of Mysore who challenged the May 17 circular by the Tariff Advisory Committee, Mumbai. The insurance was supposed to come into effect from Friday and was to apply for fresh insurers and for renewals. The petitioner said the new scheme will affect the livelihood of insurance agents and urged the court to quash the new insurance scheme. Justice Ullal ordered issue of notices to the committee, IRDA and other respondents and stayed for eight weeks the circular.
Notice
A Division Bench, comprising the Chief Justice, Nauvdip Kumar Sodhi, and Justice B.S. Patil, on Thursday ordered issue of notice before admission to the State Government and other respondents on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition praying for annulling the grant of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) property on Magarth Road to a private firm. The petitioner said the market value of the property was Rs. 250 crores. Though the stamp duty payable was Rs. 4.5 crores, it had been registered by the private firm for a lesser value. The building on the land was built without proper sanction. The Bench adjourned further hearing of the petition.
