Sudheeran's integrity indisputable: Chandy

Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presented the P.R. Francis Memorial Award for the best social activist to senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran at a function held at Ollur, near here, on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Chandy paid rich compliments to Mr. Sudheeran by describing him as a `synonym for sincerity in public life.' ``Even those who are politically opposed to Mr. Sudheeran will not dispute the purity of his purpose. I had to often become the target of his blatant attacks, but I have never questioned his integrity. People like him are assets for public life,'' he said.

Mr.Sudheeran in his reply hailed the hard work that Mr.Chandy was putting in to bring the UDF back to power. He said he had to criticise leaders like Mr. Chandy to ensure that they stick to the principles even when they come to power. ``I have adopted the same attitude towards A.K. Antony and Vayalar Ravi also,'' he said.

He, however, said the Chief Minister who is trying to win back the confidence of the people for the UDF should not take decisions like giving sanction to black sand-mining in Alappuzha that are against the interests of the people. The people of Alappuzha would not allow black sand-mining. The Chief Minister is fully aware this, and so he should not give sanction to it. Mr. Chandy should ensure that there was greater transparency in the decision-making process of the Government, he said.

He also presented the P.R. Francis Award for the best cultural activist to Surya Krishnamurthy. Mr. Sudheeran and Mr. Chandy spoke at a reception organised by the DCC to Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC president.
