MADURAI: The city police have announced diversions in traffic on important roads on Saturday in view of the function organised on the Ring Road to launch dredging work of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project. All diversions will take effect from 2 p.m. City buses taking the Ramanathapuram Road will be terminated at Viraganur and those from Sivaganga Road at Karuppayoorani. Buses from Melur Road will be halted at Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand. To return to Melur, they will pass through 120-Feet Road, Surveyor Colony, Alagarkovil Road, Kadachanendal and Vallalapatti. Outstation buses will not be allowed to enter Periyar Bus Stand or the city from Mattuthavani bus stand. Buses from Dindigul and Theni should terminate at Arapalayam bus stand. Those from Aruppukottai and Tirunelveli should stop at Palanganatham. Buses from Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga should use the Tiruppuvanam-Poovanthi-Othakadai-Melur Road route to reach Mattuthavani. While returning, they should drive through Melur Road Check Post, 120 Feet Road, Surveyor Colony, Alagarkovil Road, Kadachanendal and Othakadai to reach Melur Road. Lorries, vans and other goods-laden vehicles will be allowed entry into the city after 10 p.m., instead of 4 p.m. They should not be parked near check posts or on bypass roads. Container lorries will not be allowed to enter the city. They should stop on the outskirts after 10 a.m. on Saturday without hindering movement of vehicles. Container lorries should not be parked on the stretch between Aruppukottai Road Junction and Othakadai on the Ring Road. The following diversions will apply for vehicles taking the Ring Road between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.: Vehicles bound for Dindigul, Theni and Coimbatore from Tirumangalam should take the Chekkanoorani, Melakkal and Vadipatti route. All buses going in the direction of Ramanathapuram, from Aruppukottai Road, should pass through Kappalur Junction, Palanganatham, West Veli Street, North Veli Street, Yanaikkal, Sellur Road, MM Lodge, Jamburopuram Road, OCPM School, Gokhale Road, IOC Junction, New Natham Road, Race Course Road, Thamaraithotti Junction, Pudur, Alagarkovil Road and Melur. Buses bound for Chennai and Tiruchi from Aruppukottai Road should take Kappalur Junction, Palanganatham, Bypass Road and Fatima College Junction to reach Vadipatti. Vehicles bound for Dindigul, Theni and Tirunelveli from Ramanathapuram Road should pass through Ramanathapuram Road, Tiruppuvanam, Poovanthi, Tirumogur, Othakadai and Melur or Mattuthavani. Those from Sivaganga Road should pass through Sivaganga Road, Poovanthi, Tirumogur, Othakadai and Melur or Mattuthavani. Vehicles taking the Ring Road from Melur Road should take Vallalapatti Road from Melur and pass through Kidaripatti Road, Alagarkovil, Natham Road, Thondamanpatti Vilakku, Alanganallur and Thanichiyam to take the Dindigul Road (NH 7). Buses bound for Chennai, Tiruchi and Ramanathapuram from Theni, Dindigul and other western districts should take the Bypass Road, Palam Station Road, LIC Junction, Kulamangalam 60 Feet Road, OCPM School, Gokhale Road, IOC Junction, New Natham Road, Race Course Road, Thamaraithotti Junction, Pudur and Alagarkovil Road to reach Melur. No vehicle will be allowed on the Ring Road and the road leading to Circuit House from 2.30 p.m. on Saturday. Vehicles carrying participants from Tirunelveli, Aruppukottai, Rajapalayam, Dindigul, Thenu and Natham for the Sethu project function should take the MM Lodge Junction, OCPM School, Gokhale Road, IOC Junction, Madurai Rural SP's Camp Office Junction, Race Course Road, ITI Road or 120 Feet Surveyor Colony Road and Meenakshi Mission Hospital Junction to enter the Ring Road and remain stationed at the parking lots provided for them.
