ERODE: The elephant calf rescued from the water tub, expressed reluctance to enter the forest and reunion with its parents, and returned to the Sikkahalli tribal settlement again. The Forest Department officials sent the jumbo calf to Vandalure Zoo. Four days back, the Thalawady Forest Ranger, K. Ramachandran, foresters and tribal people rescued a 25-day-old elephant calf from a Forest Department water tub in Sikkahalli area in Thalawady forest. It sent back to forest on Friday. However, after running a kilometre, it returned to Sikkahalli. The Conservator of Forests, A. S. Jaffry and the Sathyamangalam District Forest Officer, K. P. Duraisamy, visited the calf, provided milk and fruits and ordered the transportation of the calf to Vandalure Zoo. Accordingly, the calf was transported to Vandalure Zoo on Friday evening, said the forest officials.
