AICTE nod for MCA course

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given sanction to the Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology, Anad, near Nedumangad, for starting Master of Computer Application (MCA) course during the academic year 2005-06. The intake for 2005-06 will be 60 seats, of which 30 seats in the merit quota will be filled through counselling. The remaining 30 seats are in the management quota. — Staff Reporter

Award for doctors

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government's awards for the best doctors of 2003 were presented by Health Minister K.K. Ramachandran at a function held in connection with Doctors' Day here on Friday. Those who received the awards were C.R. Mohandas (Health Services), Mathew Thomas (Medical Education Directorate) and Tiny Nair (private sector). The Minister also presented certificates of commendation to DMO E.J. Kunjamma, M.K. Velayudhan Nair and Krishnankutty for their services during the tsunami period. — Special Correspondent

PSC exam postponed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Service Commission has postponed the departmental exam scheduled to be held on July 5 to July 26 in view of the hartal on the scheduled date. There is no change in the centre or timing, according to a press release.— Staff Reporter

Three fishermen missing

KANNUR: Three fishermen were reported missing in the sea when their boat capsized off Payyambalam coast here on Saturday morning. They were identified as Ramachandran (38) of Kollam, Prakashan (40) of Wayanad and Shaji (32) of Kasaragod. Another fishermen identified as K.P. Sadiq (43) from Ayikkara here, who was also on board the boat, was rescued by other fishermen. Officials said a rescue boat had begun rescue operations — Staff Reporter

Teenager drowned in Manimala

PATHANAMTHITTA: Aashish Mathew, 18, of Koodal near Konni, was drowned in the river Manimala while taking bath at the Paduthodu kadavu near Vennikkulam this afternoon. The Fire Force team and the local people were searching the river for the body, according to the police.— Staff Reporter

Relic of St. Thomas

to be installed

PATHANAMTHITTA: The installation of the Holy Relics of St. Thomas, Apostle of Jesus Christ, at the St Thomas Catholic Centre at Niranom near Thiruvalla will be held tomorrow afternoon. According to Church sources here, the Holy Relics brought from Italy will be taken to Niranom in a procession from Changanacherry tomorrow morning. The installation ceremony will be held later in the afternoon. Mar Mathew Arackal will be the chief celebrant at the installation ceremony. — Staff Reporter

Traders not to take

part in strike

Thrissur: The Kerala Vyapari Vyasayi Ekopana Samithy will not take part in the strike called by trade unions for Tuesday. In a statement here on Saturday, Samithy State vice-president M. Jayaprakash urged the State Government to provide protection to merchants on July 5. — Staff Reporter
