VIJAYAWADA: Demanding house sites to the poor, activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Saturday, staged a dharna in front of the Collector's camp office here. The CPI (M) city secretary, Ch. Babu Rao, demanded that the district administration convert Government lands into house sites and distribute them to the poor. Lands at Payakapuram, Raja Rajeswari Pet, Krishnalanka, Patamatalanka and Ramalingeswara Nagar should be converted into house sites and the houses constructed by the poor on hill slopes should be regularised free of cost, he said. Mr. Rao demanded pucca houses to the residents of Padmavati Ghat, who have been shifted to New Raja Rajeswari Pet during the Pushkarams, under the Vambay scheme. Pucca houses to the evacuees of New Joji Nagar and fire mishap victims of Radhanagar and Tarakarama Nagar, basic facilities at Ajitsingh Nagar and Raja Rajeswari Pet and financial assistance to the poor to take up the construction of independent lavatories were the other demands made by Mr. Rao. Meanwhile, the hut-dwellers near Kedareswarapet railway track appealed to the district Collector, Naveen Mittal, to issue house site pattas. In a memorandum , the dwellers said that they had been residing in the area for the past 30 years .
