According to the police, they received a complaint from Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Ludhiana in Punjab, alleging that he had been cheated of Rs. 4.5 lakhs by two men who had brought him to Delhi on the pretext of providing him a visa and a job abroad. The accused, Sukhjeet and Golu, brought him to Rohini and introduced him to a woman, Satraj Kaur, and her accomplice, Tarsem.

Golu claimed that Satraj was his sister-in-law and that Tarsem had good connections in the Denmark Embassy. The accused demanded Rs. 4.5 lakhs from Gurpreet to arrange the visa and job in Denmark. Gurpreet gave his passport and photographs to the accused. A few days later, he was again called to Rohini and was showed his passport that bore a Denmark visa, after which he paid the money to the accused. Tarsem then kept the passport with him claiming that he would arrange an air ticket to Denmark and a job there.

However, when Gurpreet did not get any response from the accused, he lodged a complaint with the Prashant Vihar police station.
