CNG price hike condemned

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI: The Delhi State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday condemned the Sheila Dikshit Government for increasing the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by more than one rupee per kilogram.

In a statement, the CPI (M) said fares of buses, auto rickshaws and taxis would increase drastically, adversely affecting the people of Delhi who are already reeling under the impact of the recent increases in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Ramayana conference

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI: "The 21st International Ramayana Conference that concluded in New York recently has proved beyond doubt that the epic has universal appeal and also timeless relevance," said the International Chairman of the Ramayana Conferences, Lallan Prasad Vyas.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Vyas here, the former Prime Minister of Trinidad, Basdev Pandey, attended all the sessions of the three-day conference besides delivering the keynote address.

Expert visits institute

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI: Peter M. Smith, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University in Canada, visited the Ansal Institute of Technology in Gurgaon earlier this week. He is one of the leading experts worldwide on surface acoustic wave devices, a subject on which he has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has been awarded the R.A. Ross Medal by the Engineering Institute of Canada.

During his visit Prof. Smith interacted with students and faculty of AIT and exchanged ideas on engineering education and opportunities for higher studies in Canada.

According to AIT Director M.P. Singh, the institute's professional courses modelled on broad-based education meet the requirements of reputed universities in the US and Canada.
