Paves the way for computerisation of major hospitals of Delhi Government "An important step towards better patient care"

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has given financial approval for the State Health Department's proposal to set up a tele-medicine project facility at the Maulana Azad Medical College in the Capital. The Expenditure Finance Committee has sanctioned Rs. 2.91 crores for the project that is likely to be completed by March 2006.

When completed, the facility would provide a network for flow of information between various departments of the college, retrieval of reports of all laboratories and investigations online, linking of all the teaching departments with internet, downloading of latest know how in medical sciences, infrastructure for telemedicine and referral treatment to patients in neighbouring hospitals. This project is also expected to go a long way in helping initiate the process of computerisation in major hospitals of the Delhi Government. The Delhi Finance Minister, A.K. Walia, who heads the EFC, termed the project as one of the most important steps towards better patient care and extending the telemedicine facility in Delhi.

In addition, Dr. Walia said the EFC also accorded its approval to the proposal of the Transport Department for purchase of 1,750 catalytic converters at the rate of Rs. 27,500 each for the Delhi Transport Corporation buses.

A total sum of Rs. 2.80 crores was sanctioned for the purchase of these converters that will have a covered warranty of 1.50-lakh km. These buses require immediate replacement of catalytic converters to contain harmful emissions and help provide pollution free environment.

He said the EFC had also given its approval for upgradation of facilities for inspection and maintenance of motor vehicles as per provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act at Burari. A sum of Rs. 3.87 crores had been provided for extending these latest facilities. All transport vehicles are required to undergo an annual test for roadworthiness and certificate of fitness.

Keeping in view the safety of the passengers and drivers in the vehicle and public on road, it is was imperative to replace the existing outdated testing equipment with modernised vehicle testing facility with three lanes. Two lanes would be for heavy vehicles and one for medium vehicles. It would take another six months for the Transport Department to commission this facility.
