NIZAMABAD: : Efforts are on to ensure National Assessment and Accreditation Council certificate for 75 degree colleges in Government sector during the current academic year and also to make the State number one in respect of number of NAAC colleges.

At present, there are 64 colleges that have the NAAC certificate and of them, 34 are in Government sector. The State ranks fifth in the number of NAAC colleges in the country, according to the Minister for Higher Education, P. Venkateswar Rao.

Stone laid

Addressing a meeting after laying the foundation to the Post Graduate Centre building at the Government Giriraj College premises here on Saturday, he said that even if there were excellent facilities in the Government colleges few students preferred to study in them.

The Government had sanctioned Rs.20 lakhs for the proposed building costing Rs.92 lakhs and if need be it would arrange some more fund, he added.

On filling the vacancies in degree colleges, he said they would be filled in a phased manner and this year 200 posts would be recruited. All the vacancies would be filled in next three years.

"There are number of vacancies across the State. They remain unfilled as the previous Government did not conduct recruitment for several years. Our Government is committed to improve the educational standards and infrastructure,'' he said.
