The accused lured principals with offer of grants; got admission for students

NEW DELHI: A father-and-son duo have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi police on charges of arranging admissions of students to premier schools by posing as the State Education Minister.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prabhakar, the EOW on June 24 received a complaint from A.K. Singh, secretary to Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, alleging that a person posing as Mr. Lovely had been approaching different schools asking for admissions of students. The suspect had also tried to contact the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court regarding appointment of some persons in the court as Class IV employees.

Enquiries revealed that the accused had contacted principals of schools like St. Columba's and Carmel Convent and even managed to get his son admitted to one of these schools. Following the leads, a team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dheeraj Kumar, zeroed in on a property dealer, Gurdeep Singh Narula, and arrested him and his son.
