AI to start direct flights to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore

ALUVA: Air-India will operate direct flights to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore from Mumbai and Delhi from July 7, AI Chairman and Managing Director V. Thulasidas said on Saturday.

Talking to newspersons at the Cochin airport, he said it would also start direct flights to Mauritius from Mumbai from September 5.

Mr. Thulasidas said the AI would acquire 16 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, besides taking seven on lease.

These flights would be operated at cheaper rates. It planned to operate budget service in the domestic sector also.

Hangar

He said the company would start a maintenance engineering hangar at the Cochin aiport at a cost of Rs.50 crores for which five acres of land had already been acquired from Cochin International Aiport Limited (CIAL).
