KOCHI: The Malankara Jacobite Syrian Almaya Association has condemned the reported statement on Baselios Thomas I by a Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church. In a statement here on Saturday, P.K. Paulose Kooran, general secretary of the association, said the Metropolitan's statement did not befit a religious head. The Orthodox Church's contention that the Jacobite Church did not have even a piece of paper to lay claim to the Thrikunnath Seminary, Aluva, was because of `ignorance.' The will-deeds of a couple of Bishops spoke of the stake that the Jacobite church had in the seminary. Prohibitory orders, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, declared on the seminary premises should be in force till there was an amicable settlement to the issue, he said.
Security measures
The Aluva Police have cordoned off Sub-Jail Road to prevent any trouble after heads of the Orthodox and Jacobite Churches began prayers on the disputed premises from Saturday afternoon. Catholicos-designate Thomas Thimothios of the Orthodox Church was reported to be inside the seminary with a few others, while the head of the Jacobite Church, Catholicos Thomas I, was engaged in a fast and prayers outside the seminary, reports said. The police ruled out the possibility of any trouble in the area.
