Nod for medical college

HYDERABAD: Nandyal-based Santhiram Medical College (SMC) has been permitted to admit 100 students in MBBS this academic year. Call to bestow forest rights on tribals

HYDERABAD: A round-table convened by the State Girijana Sangham on Sunday demanded that forest rights be bestowed on tribals who had been cultivating lands without determining the cut-off date. According to Sriram Naik, general secretary, the meeting suggested that gram sabhas be empowered to recognise forest rights of tribals.

HYDERABAD: The State Municipal Workers and Employees' Union has sought reinstatement of engineering contract workers of Anantapur corporation who, it claims, have been removed illegally.

YSR sanctions Rs. 2.52 crores input subsidy

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has accorded sanction for a sum of Rs. 2.52 crores towards input subsidy for 11 districts, which were hit by hailstorm this year.

The Chief Minister took the decision following reports submitted by the Collectors of Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Cuddapah, Guntur, Nellore, Nalgonda, East and West Godavari, Anantapur and Chittoor districts. - Special Correspondent

YSR pays tributes

to Alluri

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, paid glowing tributes to the memory of the freedom fighter, Alluri Seetarama Raju, on his 108th jayanti.

AISF charge

against DME

HYDERABAD: The AISF State council has sought action against the Director of Medical Education (DME) for not allegedly enforcing GO 82, resulting in loss of opportunities to thousands of students to study nursing and midwifery courses.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, G. Eshwaraiah, general secretary of AISF, alleged that the DME and district officials were "misleading" that the admissions at the district-level were limited only to women. - Staff Reporter

APCC panel picks holes in delimitation method

Hyderabad: The Delimitation Committee of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) headed by G. Venkat Reddy, MLA, has decided to jointly pursue the issue of disparities in the proposed delimitation method of constituencies with other political parties.

Mr. Venkat Reddy and other members of the committee met the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Saturday to apprise him of the shortcomings in the method.

Nellore: Railway police found the body of an unidentified person, aged about 40, on the track between Chennai and Gudur. The deceased was wearing a red shirt and had a ticket for Chennai.

Police said the body of a person, about 60 years old, was found floating in Pennar river.

CHIRALA: The conference of the Affiliated College Teachers Association (ACTA-AP) will be held on July 9 and 10 in the premises of the Arts College, Bapatla, according to press release issued by P. Prasad, secretary, BCAS branch unit, ACTA, Bapatla. About 400 delegates are expected to participate in the conference from all over the State.
