GUWAHATI: Political parties have urged the Election Commission to expedite the disposal of cases of the more than two lakh doubtful/disputed voters in Assam and to undertake verification of fresh voters. The letter `D' is marked against the names of these voters. The Bharatiya Janata Party, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the CPI and the CPI (Marxist-Leninist) placed the demand before Deputy Election Commissioner R. Balakrishna at a meeting here on Saturday to discuss the revision of the voters list. The parties said that these voters had been placed in this category since 1997. They also drew the attention of the Commission towards fresh `D' voters. Both the ruling Congress and the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad did not take part in the meeting.
