Ashour triumphs

MUMBAI: World junior champion Ramy Ashour was an overpowering presence for Farhan Mehboob, the second seeded Egyptian cruising to victory in four games after the third seed from Pakistan gave up quest for points in the men's open final of the Herald Maritime Services squash Open 2005. Ashour was richer by Rs 2, 17,500 after just 37 minutes on court.

Ashour's court movements and classy control proved too hot for the Pakistan youngster, whose pace and endurance seen in earlier matches in the run-up to the final was missing. The athletic Egyptian led 11-5 in the first game before Mehboob got a looking, won the second game on retrieving skills to set up what appeared a tantalising final. The world junior champion displayed composure to wrest initiative in the third even as Mehboob's frustrations got the better of him.

The contest ended 11-5, 6-11, 11-5, 11-0 in Ashour's favour. The runner-up became richer by Rs. 1.08,750. — Special Correspondent
