NEW DELHI: An Army jawan lost his life while trying to save marooned villagers in Gujarat's Anand district on Monday. M. N. Yadav of the Army Engineers was drowned in surging floodwaters near Nadiad, official sources said here. In Gujarat, nine columns (of 80-00 men each) with eight engineertask forces, 10 medical teams and 80 boats have been deployed in Vadodara city, Partapur, Karjan, Padra, Anand, Kheda, Nadiad, Rampur and Ahmedabad. The Army has provided boats airlifted from Bangalore and Pune for rescue operations by the paramilitary forces in Anand. In Madhya Pradesh, an Army column along with eight boats has been pressed into service at Katni. A composite column is operating at Amangaon. A relief headquarters has been set up at Katni to coordinate and monitor the operations.
