KOCHI: A supermarket on the doorstep! That dream has come true in Kochi with the launch of a mobile supermarket. The dial-up service is available from morning to late in the evening. `Easy Homes,' a supermarket-on-wheels started a few months ago, is being welcomed by an increasing number of people, says its proprietor, A.M. Talib, a Gulf returnee. "The buyers have found it very convenient as they no longer have to go out and get entangled in traffic snarls or have a tough time finding parking space," he says. The service is suitable for the elderly who find it difficult to go out and buy things. It is also convenient to office-goers who cannot find time for shopping. The response to the novel concept has been encouraging, Mr. Talib says. At present, three vans run the service, and he plans to have more vehicles. The service, limited to a few residential colonies now, is to be expanded soon. Perhaps, the best part of the service is that the customer is not charged for the home delivery. And, what is more, the buyers need not pay cash; the mobile supermarket accepts credit cards.
