Five sentenced to death for murder of judge

V.S. Sambandan

COLOMBO: A Sri Lankan High Court on Monday sentenced five persons to death for the assassination of a fellow judge.

The five persons, led by an underworld drug baron, Potta Naufer, was found guilty of conspiring and killing Sarath Ambepitiya, on November 19, 2004. Media reports termed Monday's verdict as ``most probably the fastest trial-at-bar ever in the history of Sri Lanka's judiciary.'' The trial-at-bar had started on March 15.
