Hotel employee killed
According to police, Gopal (50) of Mamandur was fatally knocked down by a speeding vehicle when he tried to cross the road at around 5-15 a.m. In another accident on Monday night, a woman passenger was killed. The accident occurred at Ilyankuppam on the East Coast Road at around 8 p.m. when the driver of a private stage carrier moved the vehicle without knowing whether the passenger had alighted. As a result, the back wheel rolled over the victim Karpagam (48) killing her on the spot. The bus was proceeding from Chengalpattu to Sadras. Staff Reporter

in accident
When it came near Chinnakarai village, a speeding Minidor auto hit the moped, killing Palanisamy on the spot. Others sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Dharapuram Government Hospital. Police said the accident was due to overloading. Tsunami fear grips coastal areas
An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale reported in Indonesia on Tuesday aggravated their fears. However, the fishermen community people living near the shore at Akkaraipettai, Keechankuppam and other places in the district were vigilant and were ready to move to safer places. Revenue and police officials allayed the fears of the people in the coastal villages stating that they had no information about the tsunami. Staff Reporter
