A conspiracy, says Mayawati

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Tuesday said the attack on the disputed structure in Ayodhya was the result of a conspiracy between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party.

Demanding the dismissal of the Uttar Pradesh Government, she said both parties planned to utilise the incident to "shore up their shrinking mass base." In order to regain support, the BJP and SP would try to create tension between the Hindu and Muslim communities, she said. Therefore, the Centre should dismiss the Government and impose President's rule, she said.

Ms. Mayawati said the Government should ban the entry of all political and religious leaders in Ayodhya till the situation stabilised. She accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav of diluting the security arrangements, which had been strengthened during her tenure with the creation of a Special Security Force.
