Samji Gopinath is dead

BELLARY: Samji Gopinath, leading criminal lawyer of Bellary, passed away early this morning after a prolonged illness at his residence. He was 82.

Considered to be a walking encyclopaedia on legal matters, Gopinath, after graduating from Madras University started his legal practice as a junior of late Sarangam Thirumala Rao at Bellary.

He served the Bellary Bar for over five decades and opted to retire only last year. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters.

M. Diwakar Babu, former Minister; M. Nagaraja Rao, senior journalist; N. Tippanna and A.S. Malebennur, senior criminal lawyers; Ayyappa and Koteshwar Rao, president and secretary of Bellary Bar Association; Eshwar Ingalahalli and Gangappa Savale, public prosecutors; and Puranikmutt, assistant public prosecutor, paid last respects to the departed soul.
