Demand to amend Master Plan

A delegation of DMA calls on Vice-Chairman of DDA for the amendments "We want DDA to do away with the license fee for health care facilities operating in residential areas''

NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) called on the Delhi Development Authority Vice-Chairman on Monday urging him to make "patient-friendly'' amendments to Master Plan-2021.

Outlining the Association's demands, DMA president, K. K. Aggarwal, said: "We want DDA to do away with the license fee for health care facilities operating in residential areas. Also, the new Master Plan should mark out areas in residential zones for all health care facilities.''

"We fail to understand how a hospital with up to 100 beds can be permitted in a residential area but a nursing home, polyclinic, clinic or clinical laboratory cannot be. If the new Master Plan is implemented as it is, over 20,000 clinics and small clinical laboratories will not only be out of business, 80 per cent of health services in the city of Delhi will get affected,'' he added.

Stating that the services provided by nursing homes, polyclinics, clinics and clinical laboratories were essential, Dr. Aggarwal said: "Good health care options are essential and are the Fundamental Right of every citizen of the country. Who wouldn't want to receive emergency cardiac care within five minutes of clinical death, as only during this period is death reversible?".
