Memorandum

to Prime Minister

NEW DELHI: The All-India Freedom Fighters' Organisation has sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to take immediate measures for the welfare of freedom fighters.

Among other things, it has demanded that the monthly "Samman Pension" be increased from Rs.3,000 to 5,000 and be linked with the price index equivalent to the dearness allowance granted to Central Government employees.

Top priority to

upkeep of roads

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has decided to give top priority to upkeep of roads in view of the onset of the monsoon.

The Public Works Department Minister, A. K. Walia, on Tuesday discussed the issue at a high-level meeting with the Engineer-in-Chief of PWD, R. Subramanian, and other senior officials.

Development work

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Assembly Speaker, Prem Singh, on Tuesday inaugurated a series of development works for the welfare of people at Khanpur in South Delhi.

Besides inaugurating the re-boring of tube-wells in the area for supply of drinking water, he also gave the go-ahead for de-silting and cleaning of the sewerage system.

Health check-up camp

NEW DELHI: A large number of people attended a free health check-up camp organised by G. M. Modi Hospital at Saket over the weekend. An expert panel of doctors from the hospital offered a comprehensive general health check-up to men, women and children.

The G. M. Modi Hospital and Research Centre For Medical Sciences is a multi-specialty critical care hospital. It has taken many initiatives towards creating general health awareness among people by organising various camps in residential colonies.

Rise in NTPC generation

NEW DELHI : Coal stations of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) generated 35,431 MUs during the first quarter of the current fiscal (April 1-June 30, 2005), according to a spokesperson of NTPC here.

"The company has thus recorded an increase of nearly 7% in power generation as compared to the corresponding period last year when the total generation from these stations was 31,124 MUs. The plant load factor (PLF) for the coal-based stations for the quarter has also improved to 87.31% as compared to 87.13% last year," the spokesperson added.
