NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police constable posted at the Mayur Vihar police station allegedly thrashed his Station House Officer (SHO) after the latter released one of the persons he had detained and also slapped him before them on Sunday. Though the constable was initially suspended, he was later reinstated at a different police station. It all happened on Sunday night when Constable Devender brought two alleged miscreants to the police station to book them for causing disturbance after drinking. He requested the SHO, Satish Kain, to book them under Section 107/51 of the Indian Penal Code. However, it is alleged that Kain did not listen to Devender and set one of the detainees free, while he asked the personnel concerned to book the other detainee under the Delhi Police Act. This irked Devender and he entered into an argument with Kain in a bid to convince him. However, in a fit of rage, the SHO allegedly slapped Devender before the detainees. A humiliated and angry Devender soon left the place. He then allegedly consumed liquor and returned around 2 a.m. to settle scores with his boss. Devender went straight to the SHO's chamber, allegedly abused Kain and thrashed him. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of senior police officers who rushed to the spot and suspended Devender. But on Monday morning, Devender called up the Police Control Room and said his self-respect had been hurt due to the incident and that he and his wife would commit suicide outside the Police HQ. It is learnt that after Devender reached the Police Headquarters, senior police officers calmed him down. Realising that the suspension would send across a wrong signal , they quickly reinstated Devender.
