NEW DELHI: The Delhi police on Tuesday sounded a high alert in the capital and stepped up security at temples and vital installations following the terrorist strike in the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya. Raids are also being held at suspected terrorist hideouts. Police Commissioner K.K. Paul called an urgent meeting of senior police officers in the afternoon to review security arrangements in the city. Dr. Paul asked police officers to step up deployment at the Jhandewalan, ISKON, Lakshminarayan, Birla and other prominent temples. The police, along with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), have tightened security at the Indira Gandhi International airport. Last week four men, allegedly working as conduits for Pakistan's Inter-State Intelligence (ISI), were arrested in south-west Delhi. They were carrying arms and ammunition and a map of the airport. Police patrols at railway stations, bus terminals, busy markets, cinema halls and Delhi Metro stations have been intensified. The police said extra security personnel have also been deployed at the Jhandewalan headquarters of the RSS and the sensitive Walled City area of Delhi.
