Detonators found on Minister's route

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police found some slurry explosive substance on an approach road connected to the Attapur bridge-Premavathi route on which the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, was expected to travel.

A police team was inspecting the road and lanes connected to it in view of the Home Minister's visit to the Premavathipet firing range. Around 3.30 p.m., the bomb detection squad found the slurry explosive, two non-electric detonators and a gelatine stick on the approach road leading to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) colony under construction. The explosive material was not planted and nearly 50 yards away from the route to be taken by the Home Minister, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy, said. Inquiries revealed that the road-laying contractor, Krishna Chaitanya, of HMT Nagar in Nacharam had blasted the rocks. However, a case was booked against the contractor since he did not obtain permission to carry out the blasts.
