Act of desperation

The terrorist attack on the makeshift Ram temple at Ayodhya deserves strong condemnation. It was clearly aimed at disturbing communal harmony in the country. Some vested interests are out to wreck the India-Pakistan peace process, which has generated enormous goodwill between the governments and the people of the two nations. The terrorist outfits have found themselves increasingly marginalised and are desperate. But equally deplorable is the reaction of the Sangh Parivar leaders to the attack. Irresponsible statements will only help terrorist organisations, whose objective is to destabilise the country.

Amit Anand,
Noida, U.P.

The intention of the militants was to damage the secular fabric of our country. Such cowardly acts should be condemned by one and all. People should maintain calm in this hour of crisis. The nation has already witnessed a lot of bloodshed because of the Ayodhya dispute.

M. Nazeeruddin,
Kurnool, A.P.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's appeal to parties not to politicise the issue should be respected. Before jumping to conclusions on who was behind the attack, it is only wise to wait for the investigations to be over and the identity of the attackers established.

P. Kannan,
Srivilliputtur, T.N.

The war against terror should be fought jointly by nations and there should be no peace parleys with the nation that has institutionalised terror against us.

Air Cmde (retd.) Raghubir Singh,
Pune

The attack is not an isolated incident but the continuation of a policy of low intensity war to bleed India. The intention of such strikes is beyond creating communal disharmony. It is to destabilise the country. Pakistan continues to export terrorism. It has been misleading the global community into believing that it has joined the fight against terrorism. It is the failure of the international community to recognise this that has emboldened that country. Our weakened policy towards Pakistan is no less responsible for the attack.

M.M. Kotian,
Bangalore

The act is a heinous design to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the country and to derail India-Pakistan relations. To term it the handiwork of a religious group and to make provocative statements amount to playing into the hands of mischief mongers.

S. Sultan Mohiddin,
Cuddapah, A.P.
