HYDERABAD: Hydel stations in Nagarjunasagar have re-started power generation providing relief to the grid which is struggling to meet the demand without cuts and without banking on external sources. In line with the Government's decision to release waters to the Krishna delta, nearly 6,000 cusecs of water is being discharged from Nagarjunasagar to the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada facilitating the use of about 500 MW installed capacity of its hydel complex. This, coupled with generation of the same order from the Sileru complex, placed the grid in a better position. No other hydel source is being tapped now due to depleted water levels. Power supply in Andhra Pradesh registered a significant improvement not only due to these hydel sources but also a fall in overall demand due to rain. The demand fell to 133 million units on Tuesday and it was fully met by the Transco.
