Revenue of Guntur rail division up

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: There is an increase in the earnings of the newly formed Guntur rail division by 47 per cent, according to the Divisional Railway Manager, P.N. Shukla.

Addressing the first ever Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) in-camera meeting of Guntur division on Wednesday, he said the gross earnings of the division touched Rs. 157 crores. The division had taken all efforts to improve passenger amenities in a large way, he said.

The railways had spent Rs. 2.65 crores during the year 2004-05 on passenger amenities alone. A separate reservation office, extension of subways and improvement of circulation area in Guntur station were taken up, he added.

Twelve members - representing passenger associations, trade and chamber of commerce - and the Tenali MLA, Nadendla Manohar, participated in the meeting.

The members urged the railways to maintain the same tempo in improving passenger amenities at other stations like Giddalur, Piduguralla and New Guntur and the DRM assured the same.

The trade representatives expressed their satisfaction on the quick resolution of rationalisation problems of the luggage tariff that arose in the new budget.
