Demonstration

NEW DELHI: Activists of the All-India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) led by its chairman, M.S. Bitta, staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday protesting against the attack on the Ramjanmbhoomi complex at Ayodhya on Tuesday morning.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bitta said terrorist attacks on Hindu temples were aimed at desecrating the religious structures. He said AIATF would launch a week-long country-wide protest against the alarming rise in terrorist attacks.

Tribute to Jagjivan Ram

NEW DELHI: An all-religion prayer meeting was organised at Samata Sthal here on Wednesday to mark the 19th death anniversary of the former Deputy Prime Minister, Jagjivan Ram.

A large number of people from all sections of society turned up to pay homage to the late leader. The Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and Jagjivan Ram's daughter, Meira Kumar, accompanied by her family members paid floral tributes at the Samadhi. Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Sahib Singh Verma, also paid obeisance to the late leader.

Educationist nominated for Peace Nobel

NEW DELHI: The Founder-Principal of Springdales School on Pusa Road, Rajni Kumar, is among the 91 women from India who have been nominated globally for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005.

A veteran educationist who has attempted to make education more humane and students better human beings, Ms. Kumar has been selected for her immense contribution towards education for peace, justice and human rights.

Student car competition

NEW DELHI: A group of students from the Delhi College of Engineering are participating in the Formula Student Car Competition being held at Leicester in the United Kingdom from this Thursday.

Competing with 60 teams from all over the world for innovation in design and performance, the team was flagged off by Olympian silver medallist winner Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore this past week. A team from the Delhi College of Engineering also won an award for the Best Design Endeavour in 2003 organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

An attempt to encourage young students to create innovative designs, the team received support from Maruti Udyog.
