Members allege neglect of drinking water projects

BANGALORE: Members cutting across party lines criticised the Government in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday for its failure to provide funds for drinking water projects and distribute sites under the Ashraya scheme.

Speaking on the discussion on the adjournment motion on extending the term of the Drinking Water Task Force set up under the chairmanship of legislators, the leader of the Opposition, B.S. Yediyurappa, said the Government had no concern for the rural poor and it had not cleared bills worth crores of rupees in the districts. J.C. Madhuswamy (JD-U), Vatal Nagaraj (Kannada Chaluvali), G.V. Sriram Reddy (CPI-M), and K Annadani and Manchanahalli Mahadev (JD-S) were critical of the Government over the twin issues.

The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, sought to mollify the agitated Opposition members by agreeing to extend the term of the task force by three more months from July 1.
